As White As Snow

Like my school song sang "Simple is Virtue..."
Purity of white brings refineness and delicate.
Nothing fancy nor loud.
Very subtle and peaceful.
Just lovely.

Wish we had the kind of weather to dress like that. It would be fabulous to do all those layerings! The scarves, trench coat, leggings, hoods, jackets, boots and hats. The problem with Singapore is the weather. The only cooler time is during the raining and wet december, where we could dress up more stylishly. We may not have the climate to look that exciting but do turn on your creativity and try look different everytime you dress up. So don't be restricted by our climate and have fun looking great!

Oh NO! We burnt a Xmas TREE!!!

dinner oh dinner!! I couldn't wait to get my hands on those lovely little neck clams. Think it's been an all-ocassion meal for me to eat at Greenwood Fish Market this year. haha! Delighted to have those yummy little things for my xmas dinner. They were BIG and JUICY if that's the way to describe clams. So it was crabmeat vongole & little necks AND little necks with white wine for us. Of course, we could not do without our all time favorite lobster bisque.

Saw the little xmas tree in the pictures? It seats on each table and I've accidentally got ours burnt. Haha..Was playing with the candle, trying to take the best shot out of it and while busy chatting with D ...the xmas tree flamed!! Maybe it was a forest fire in Greenwood..haha...No one got hurt .....just that the poor xmas tree has to be taken away. Oh well....it's the clams that matter after all. Hope you all had memorable evening too and here's wishing you a very Merry Xmas!!

It's Christmas Already?

I've only received one christmas card so far and the festive is just round the corner. How pathetic. Can't believe that it is only 6 days away!! Have you done your shopping yet? Or are you one of those queuing the long lines in shopping malls.

I'm glad I finished mine. This time round I started doing my present hunting as early as Feb and getting them when I see something suitable for friends. I'm gonna do the same next year. Think it's better and less stressful.

Not sure what I'll be doing on Christmas Eve....perhaps a good rest will be good. Wonder how others celebrate theirs?

Connie

Connie caught my attention when sis forwarded the Youtube link she was on in Britain Got Talent to me. Her pitch seems perfect and she sounded almost angelic. You can almost tear watching her sing.

Only 6 years old, she swept the audience away with Rainbow Connection and Ben. Nearly got away as the winner, she came in 2nd place for that season's talent. Not bad for a kid so young.

Her album's out - Over the Rainbow and in store now in Singapore. It's refreshing. You'll find her 2 winning songs as well as the famous hit I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston) which she sang wonderfully proving her vocal capability. Love it! It's really good to calm your emotions and make you feel like peaceful.

She's on MySpace so check out what's happening to her lately here.

Utter Rubbish - a collection of useless ideas

Visited the UtterRubbish exhibition over the weekend. Refreshing touch to being environmental friendly. Interesting concepts of products, designs, furniture, fashion and architectuals. For a small entrance fee of $5, we brought home with us lots of new things learnt about saving the environment. Took a few pictures to share with you.

These are recycled coasters. Little speech bubbles for your
cups/glasses to add fun to your environment!

Sofa covered with used shirts and pants.

Love this concept! It takes 5 years to grow this stool!!
There is a kit which would help you grow this piece of furniture.

And lastly, me having fun with punchbags made of recycled papers.
I've punched it and it was really quite tough. Hehehe...

Finito !!!

Yeah...we finished with our photoshoots today!! It has been quite tiring since we had to get up earlier to catch the sun and was catching it all over the house the whole day..haha! Sunlight is important for our shoots when pictures are supposed to turned out best with shots taken under those sunny and bright conditions.

Unfortunately, for one reason or another, some shots turned out grainy. Disappointed, but we hope you can forgive us, the amateurs. Lots of limitations and we wish we could deliver better.

However, rather than crying over what can't be undone. We managed to reconstuct one picture we took during our shoot in an arty farty impression to give you a mini sneak preview!!

Not too bad after all huh...we lurrvvee the effect!!New products are gonna be launched soon! Look out yah!

Wizard of Fashion

Hussein Chalayan

Described as: quote "a designer with the heart of an artist and with the brain of a scientist". His pieces are described as intense and conceptual, while reflecting cultural or socio-political themes. The experimental blend of fashion, art and animatronics is most intriguing. Does remind me of a particular fashion show of another amazing designer, Alexander McQueen, where the machines are skillfully crafted to evoke deep emotions (spring/summer 1999 finale). Personally I feel it's successfully provocative, with depth... truly avant garde.

So it's no surprise that one of the most innovative studio - SHOWstudio, got an exclusive behind the process and production. There's even a video in this article!

Five Petalled Flower (5PF)

(picture taken from Sony Ericsson's camera phone)

I just love this glass - the Sakurasaku. Got it from Gough Street, Hong Kong. (a little hidden lane - home of many designer products). We saw this online from 100% before and were wooo..haaaa...by what they had. At the shop, we also saw the umbrella stand which is another item that I quite like from 100%.

I've started using the glass today and placed it on my five petalled flower notepad which water got me. Look at the marks it makes!! 5PF 5PF 5PF 5PF...it's actually a mark of a sakura flower. Haha...I don't know why, but I'm just crazy about five petalled flowers and everything about it! Haha...

Ready for Christmas?

We're back!

Our shopping trip has been quite fruitful and we can't wait to show you what we've got. Unfortunately, there has been some problem with the laptop and the SD card does not read the files in there, so we can't show them to you as yet. Geeezzzz... Anyhow, don't worry, we'll get it fix real soon. Promise.

In the meanwhile, why don't you get your christmas shopping list ready so it'll be easier for you to shop and decide the buys you wanna get later.

Here's a peek of Crushing Dried Leaves' choice of christmas gift ... ...It's a colorful acrylic/chained chic looking necklace. It was love at first sight. As we have only got a few pieces per design for stock, be sure to be quick to place your orders. Ho ho ho!!!

Our Latest Toy!!

We've never been that tech-savvy. Unlike many others who have changed their mobile phones once every few months, we held on to ours for about 2 years. Maybe there was a sentimental reason. Or maybe we did like the old phone. However we decided to get one 3G mobile phone for our coming escapades. After several mobile hunts, we decided on Sony Ericcson's K530. Boy did we realise that we were lost in time in terms of technology. As we got an upgrade with our price plan, our mobile phone did not cost us a cent. And thereafter we spent the rest of our weekend playing with our new toy. So happy!

02 November 2007

Just a Call ... ...

When mobile phones were not the "thing" then in 80s & 90s, we use to chat using the fixed line from home alot more. I guess those days we could remember friends' home numbers better, fewer appointments were being cancelled last minute and we could somehow spend many more hours on the phone yakking/gossiping/updating each other on our lives/stories.

These days we have mobile phones and through that we could send text/picture messages. Otherwise, we could be on online messengers via the many various service providers such as MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Skype etc. Or even drop an email to the other party. With the convenience of such lower cost communication and several options, talking on the phone never seems to be the 1st priority.

Now that I think about it, chatting on the phone for hours seems like a thing of the past. Maybe it's gotta do with the age factor. Umm....perhaps...maybe?

So when Water called last night and we engaged into this really serious girl talk, I enjoyed it so much to the extend that I was actually eating my cheese, relaxing on my bed and going through the intense conversation with her. Well, I shouldn't be going into details of our call, but it had to do with strategizing, analysis and critical thinking. See....the depth we had to go into? I think we spoke for almost an hour and ended the call only because Water seems to be losing her voice (she was down with a flu, poor thing).

I found the call satisfying...if I may use that to the describe it. After all, my...my...it's been ages!

Keeping the OLD

Wonder what they are going to do with the old Capitol Theater. Walked pass it today and had a nostalgic feel as we stood there admiring it. Even though we may be too young to know, but the cinema that brought many couples together, that brought great entertainment then had created a vibrant hype for the movie industry in Singapore. Today the building looks old and abandoned. We are hoping that it will be restored to its formal glory and the passion it once brought.

Let's strike!

For our big dreams and goals ahead, we decided to try our hand at 4D today. Think it is an art to master the mechanics behind getting the right number, the bet placed and the feng shui of the 4D outlet. It took us about 15mins to even get the form filled up right (see how novice we are in this sport? ha). But what the heck, we got our number and hopefully we have the luck. Go go go!

As Tears Go By - Marianne Faithful

It is the evening of the day,
I sit and watch the children play.
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me,
I sit and watch as tears go by.
My riches can’t buy everything,
I want to hear the children sing.
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground,
I sit and watch as tears go by.
It is the evening of the day,
I sit and watch the children play.
Doing things I used to do
They think are new,
I sit and watch as tears go by.

California Dreams - Mamas & Papas

All the leaves are brown
And the sky is gray
I've been for a walk
On a winter's day
I'd be safe and warm
If I was in L.A.
California dreamin'
On such a winter's day
Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Oh, I got down on my knees
And I pretend to pray
You know the preacher likes the cold
He knows I'm gonna stay
California dreamin'
On such a winter's day
All the leaves are brown
And the sky is gray
I've been for a walk
On a winter's day
If I didnt tell her
I could leave today
California dreamin'
On such a winter's day
(California dreamin')
On such a winter's day
(California dreamin')
On such a winter's day

To be IN and be SEEN

Everytime I explore a new place with D, I would hope to bring Water the next time she returns.

We were at Dempsey Hill last weekend, the latest place to be in and be seen in Singapore. It consists of restaurants, cafes, pubs, gourmet stores and a spa. To bring it all closer to Water, we took some pictures to entice her taste buds and as well as to make her come back "home" soon.

D loved the fabulous Jones the Grocer which have a wide selection of gourmet goodies and variety of cook's favorite tools. It ranges from chocolates, ice-creams, baking stuff, herb plants and not forgetting the one and only cheese room in Singapore! I think it is a great place for a girls' hang out in the afternoon enjoying the updates with a cuppa and biscottis.

We dropped by at Ben & Jerry's which co-joint with a mini cafe, CA. Great place for kids as well as ice-cream lovers. I love the aesthetics.... nice, warm and homely.

Our last stop was Barracks at the House . This was only after an unpleasant time at La Forketta, an italian restaurant (insisting an order of SGD28 per pax when all we wanted was to share a pizza) that made us find our way to Barracks. It was nevertheless a pleasant surprise. We came into a quiet place not knowing we were already in the restaurant. The interior was somewhat comfortable and easily made one feel at ease.

The staff were wearing army barracks uniform which reminds me of some summer bootcamp. Where we sat overlooked lots of greenery. I also spotted a nice enclosed glasshouse which seems great for a christmas dinner party with my girlfriends! But the food did not impressed me though D loved his fish and chips. Will give it another try next time!

Look at the menu and the featured artist of the month, Arlene Rienebe!

Nice view... ...

Fish & Chips with Truffle Chips

Cheeky Veal

Besides all that were mentioned, some outlets worth mentioning are Culina Gourmet Shop cum Cafe and Margaritas, a Mexican restaurant. I can't wait to try out the spa at the House with the wonderful nature surrounding them.

Now that accessibility is made easier to Dempsey Road, I see myself heading there more often!

Macarons

We were in town and thought of having some macarons. Coincidentally, Canelle is having a Macaron Festival with limited edition of creations. Flavors in this selection includes green tea, chestnut, sesame-seed, violet, pistachio, citron vert and truffle cream. The chestnut one was unique and the pistachio one was terrific!

You won't be able to resist the packaging even if you had wanted to reduce some calories. We love the little macaron fairy on the boxes of these nicely packed macarons. Great choice for dessert if you want to spoil yourself during the weekend!

Quote of the Day!

Nude

We have probably forgot that the nude colors can bring out the feminity in us. For Spring 2008, Bottega Veneta brought a clean look with fine details such as pleats, folds and flows. Neglected for its plain color, nudes had surprisingly brought highlights to this show with simplicity focused on the collection.

Catching Up

Almost all my weekends, I spend time in Great World City having lunch, doing groceries or updating myself with the latest at Zara. Today, I did the same and while leisure walking in this foreigner-infested mall, I met a long time friend. The fact that I could hardly recognize him and vice versa had made me realized that time had past very quickly.

After a short and very brief "hi and bye" today, it came to me that those days when we were in our 20s were precious time. Then I had thought that I was old. But now that I look back, I feel that those days were energetic and our prime. In our 20s, most of us just started in our career, probably in our courtship days and we always had time for each other, almost every weekend! Our friday evenings were spent mainly in clubs with loud music and drinks. Saturdays were more chilled out where we go for great dinners and movies.

Now that everyone have moved on with their careers and marriage lives, we hardly have time for each other. And more effort goes into organizing outings. Even when we meet up, we have really nothing much to say to each other. But deep inside, I know we have our best wishes for each other.

Frankly, I missed those days. We should catch up with what we had to avoid loosing and forgetting them in the coming days.
